Sighthound solutions

"You could tell a gentleman by his horses and his greyhounds."

Canine Care Behaviour offers specialist support and treatment plans for owners of sighthounds. These beautiful dogs often find themselves in rescue organisations and rehoming centres, misunderstood and with a range of social and anxiety related difficulties, owners may find it perplexing and challenging to manage, train and care for these extremely sensitive of dog breeds.

Sighthounds include breeds such as the whippet, greyhound of course, Saluki, Spanish Galgo and the many varied and wonderful crosses including those that are often termed lurchers and long dogs.

What is the difference ?  A lurcher is a sighthound crossed with a breed that is not a sighthound, often collie, bulldog type or Bedlington terrier.

A longdog is a cross between two sighthounds, for example, a greyhound/saluki or deerhound/greyhound.

What problems do we encounter ?

Sometimes these dogs have never lived in a domestic setting before finding themselves in rescue and then in a new home. There may be issues with house training, mixing with other dogs, getting to know people, including children, recall difficulties and of course their varying levels of prey drive and strong hunting instincts which may present varying issues and difficulties.

Please do contact me if you wish to discuss your sighthound further. I have many years of experience with these uniquely challenging, yet gentle and sensitive breeds.
